Reclaim The Night creative workshop

Join this collaborative group workshop as we create larger-than-life banners of protest.

Inspired by ideas of safe underground community spaces in our Hollow Earth exhibition, we’ll be guided by artist Charlotte Tupper experimenting with fabric and stitch, sharing stories of solidarity along the way. The banners we create will feature in the Reclaim The Night march.

On the night of Sat 22 Oct the women-only* Reclaim the Night protest march will stomp, sing, dance and shout its way through Nottingham City Centre, reclaiming our streets as we take a stand to oppose violence and harassment against women.

  • *All women are welcome; we are trans-inclusive and welcome anyone who has experienced misogynistic oppression.
  • Free. No booking required.
  • All art materials provided though feel free to bring any specific items you’d like to include on the banner; we’ve seen people use stickers, badges and underwear in the past.
  • You do not need to attend the march to join this workshop.
  • If you are not able to join the workshop but would still like to create your own protest banner, you can collect a sample of creative materials from our gallery or request a pack to be posted to your address; contact natelle@nottinghamcontemporary.org for details (please note we cannot post internationally).
  • Due to the potential themes and context, we recommend this workshop to be suitable for ages 12 and above.
  • The workshop space is accessible to wheelchair users. If you have any questions around access or have specific access requirements, please get in touch so we can support you.
