This Autumn we are presenting Midnight Sun - the first institutional solo exhibition, and largest presentation of works to date, of the late Nottingham-born artist Sarah Cunningham (1993–2024, UK). Join Martin Clarkson to take a stroll through ‘The Midnight Sun’, to wander and wonder through Sarah Cunningham's painterly worlds. Through the exhibition, Martin will pay reverence to, and share stories of, his dear friend and fellow artist.

With a painter's eye, he will guide the audience through Sarah Cunningham’s homecoming show, talk about painting and share with the audience the story of their friendship. Martin will share insights into Sarah’s biography, from her humble grass roots beginnings to carving international success with pride, grit and determination.

The walkthrough will braid together both artists’ love for paint as a dynamic material, with its rich history and emotive power to connect. The session will also delve into a fascination with nature and the arboreal world, delving into deep time, whilst touching on the spiritual and shared interconnectedness with the ‘more than human’.

Martin Clarkson (b.1988) is a British artist living and working in South West Scotland. Clarkson studied fine art painting at Loughborough University and has painted over the decade since.
