Looking back at the Midland Group
The Midland Group was one of the most significant organisations for the display and promotion of new art in Nottingham. The exhibitions and activities it organized helped to create a local audience for contemporary art, and brought international developments in the field to the region. Although its heyday was the 1960s and early 1970s, and it closed altogether in 1987, its legacy is still felt in the city, and it continues to inspire a new generation of artists working here. Nick Alfrey will lead a panel of speakers to reflect on Nottingham's creative culture.
This panel talk chaired by Nick Alfrey from the Department of History of Art will recall the work of The Midland Group; one of the most significant organisations for the display and promotion of new art in Nottingham. Reminiscing about it's heyday in the 60's and 70's the talk will also reflect on how this group built a legacy that continues to inspire new artists and promote the creative city culture that is felt in Nottingham today.
The event is part of the "Nottingham Creative City" strand in the Being Human festival 2015.
