BSL Exhibition Tour with Jason Redwood
Join us for a BSL Exhibition Tour of our current exhibition by Sarah Cunningham: Midnight Sun, the first institutional solo exhibition and largest presentation of works to date of the late British artist. Jason Redwood’s tour will be delivered in British Sign Language without an interpreter or a voiceover. We welcome all people that communicate in BSL, whether they are D/deaf or learning BSL.
Cunningham sought out the essential and the alive through her imaginary wildernesses and fluid forestscapes, taking inspiration from the speculative landscapes of science fiction literature, art history, ecology and personal references. Part abstract experimentation, part spiritual journey, every painting at some level represents the intuitive and unspoken connection between nature and humankind. Her unusual, nocturnal practice estranged her limbs and thoughts from systematic, painterly movements, resulting in works that briefly dwell in darkness only to culminate in the arrival of the dawn chorus. Through her sweeping expressionistic gestures, Cunningham built up layers of paint that she shaped into fluid motion, creating landscapes not just as we know them, but as scenes of possibility and portals into other worlds.
Jason Redwood is a BSL tour guide and presenter with an English Literature degree and a passion in installation art and history. He has delivered BSL tours in a range of museums and galleries, with experience curating exhibitions and understanding various art forms across the UK and the world. He has always enjoyed sharing his passions and thoughts with the Deaf and BSL audiences who have visited his tours, and he always strives to show how wonderful things are in their own unique perspectives.
