Response 5

Since November 2021 a group of Nottingham Trent University students worked on placement at Nottingham Contemporary to create issue 5 of Response - a magazine collection of fictional and non-fictional texts, photographs, and other artworks in reaction to Our Silver City 2094, Nottingham Contemporary's sci-fi meets climate change exhibition.

This unique issue explores themes surrounding Liz Jensen's novella also titled Our Silver City 2094, that shaped the exhibition. It engages and simultaneously confronts readers about climate change and the importance of our own awareness of the deepening crisis.

Nottingham Contemporary hosts annual Response placement projects working with groups of students studying courses on Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences and Art and Design. Each cohort forms an editorial team to produce a publication of their design revealing viewpoints and new perspectives on a wide range of Nottingham Contemporary’s exhibitions and activities. In working groups, students research and write texts, invite contributors, conduct interviews, produce photography and illustration, and design their issue and publication launch event. During placements, students attend editorial meetings and work with a range of staff, freelance professionals, visitors, curators, and artists at Nottingham Contemporary.
