Family Activity Resource: Material Library

Two images of two different cardboard sculptures

Explore changing the surface of one material in as many ways as you can! Can you make it look like a different material altogether, can you change the way it feels as well as the way it looks?

Work with materials such as cardboard or paper, you can use sheets or maybe you could use a box and transform each side of the box. Think about cutting, ripping, folding, rubbings - how many different ways can you change the surface?

Once you’ve created a collection of different experiments - why not keep them to use for a different project? You could create sculptures with them? Or a stack of boxes to play with?

This activity is inspired by the artwork of Diane Simpson. Find out more about her art here.
