Big Room Family Films

With the impact on families of rising costs we wanted to make sure we were opening our doors wide this winter. Since January we’ve been running a special family film hub, showing favourite movies, serving free hot chocs and popcorn and we’ve met lots of new families along the way.

Families can be especially stretched, so we wanted to make sure we created a really welcoming, relaxed space and a free and fun day out. We’re hugely grateful to Nottingham City Transport, who have been offering free group rider bus tickets. It means that families who otherwise might not be able to bring the family into town can come along.

We're also working with partner schools, community groups and foodbanks to share information to families. Even though we haven’t advertised the events publicly, they’ve all been fully booked since November (although we can always find space for families too). It says a lot when warm hubs and foodbanks across the country are in such high demand, but we’re proud to work alongside brilliant community groups and services and be part of a response in the city.

“It was our first time to the movie. It was really great with the welcoming feeling to be at the Contemporary.” First-time family visitor

Families who have not visited before are coming along. It’s been wonderful to get to know people and then welcome them back each week. Importantly, families tell us they like the atmosphere and think it’s a great offer.

Big Room family films will continue until 19 March, when we’ll pause for the start of Spring (and hopefully warmer weather). Our usual free family activities are coming up over the Easter school holidays too.
