Already There!

Curated by Klaus Weber, ‘Already There!’ took place between 22 October 2011 and 8 January 2012, alongside Weber’s solo exhibition, ‘If You Leave Me I’m Not Coming’. The artist assembled disparate objects culled from visits to the Science Museum, The Ashmolean Museum, The Bode Museum and the Archaeological and Zoological collections of University College London.

‘Already There!’ included some 200 objects spanning 1,000,000 years, including art works by Enrico Baj, Balthus, Louise Bourgeois, André Breton, Reg Butler, César, Maya Deren, Gilbert & George, Nan Goldin, Philip Guston, William Hogarth, Mark Leckey, Henri Michaux, Jean Painlevé, Eduardo Paolozzi, Cornelia Parker, Sigmar Polke and Kurt Schwitters and David Shrigley. Weber regards these objects as the “foundations” of his art works. Within this dense two-gallery display, formal coincidences between otherwise quite different objects gave rise to surprising third meanings.
