Morgan, Alastair

United Kingdom

Alastair Morgan is Senior Lecturer in Mental Health at Sheffield Hallam University. His contribution to the Nottingham Contemporary discussion series Anti-Psychiatry & Its Legacies drew from his background in both critical theory and mental health practice. He explored the nature of critique in "anti-psychiatry" and considered why such a critique is disavowed or downplayed in contemporary critical psychiatry - to the extent that a gesture of disavowal of anti-psychiatry is almost an obligatory first step in any discourse critical of psychiatry. He is interested in a "critical rescue" of precisely those more political and radical elements of critique encapsulated by figures like Franco Basaglia.
