Althamer, Pawel



Pawel Althamer is a sculptor and creator of installations and video art who is widely recognized for collaborative work involving students and fellow artists and those outside the art world; longstanding collaborators include the Nowolipi Group, an organisation in Warsaw for adults with mental or physical disabilities, Althamer studied at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, where his peers included Artur Zmijewski and Katarzyna Kozyra. His work has been featured in solo exhibitions at museums such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris (2006), the Vienna Secession (2009) and Modern Art Oxford (2009), and included in Documenta 10 (1997) and numerous international biennials including Berlin (2006), Istanbul (2005) and Venice (2003). In 2004 he won the prestigious Vincent van Gogh Award for Contemporary Art in Europe.
