The Alchymist Walkthrough

with Lucy Bamford

18 May 2016

Lucy Bamford, Derby Museums Exhibitions Curator explores Joseph Wright’sThe Alchemist Discovering Phosphorus in relation to The Grand Tour.

Lucy Bamford is Senior Curator of Art at Derby Museums. Whilst her role is concerned with the care, development, and use of a varied, historic art collection, her focus is increasingly towards the Designated collection of work by the 18th century artist, Joseph Wright of Derby. Leading on Derby Museums’ campaign to raise the profile of this artist, Lucy’s work has included a successful bid for Designation status for the collection (awarded in 2010), followed by the development of a new Joseph Wright Gallery (opened in 2012) and the Joseph Wright Institute, including a public Study Room dedicated to the artist in which over 300 of his drawings are available to view. More recently, she was the co-curator of Derby Museums’ Grand Tour exhibition, “Joseph Wright and the Lure of Italy” (runs until 12 June 2016).
