The album is created live by THePETEBOX in studio environments with each track being filmed by Simon to create a fully immersive album experience as every sound, note, take, can be watched and heard exactly as it appears on the record. Along with the screening of the album itself there will be a short documentary on the making of the album, filmed and edited by Tom Walsh.
Simon's short films have received countless international awards, including the jury prize for Best International Short at the Sundance Film Festival, and nominations for the BAFTA and European Academy Awards. His films have been presented collectively in dedicated retrospective programmes at over a dozen film festivals worldwide. His recent multi-narrative, interactive anti-knife crime films have won over sixty prizes in advertising, the most recent of which was ranked 'most awarded TV campaign in the world' by Campaign magazine.
Having established himself as an explosive live performer, headlining stages at festivals, club nights and events across the globe, THePETEBOX takes his unique brand of music creation and performance to record in April 2012.
This endeavor from live performer to recording artist has realised itself in ‘Future Loops’, a live, video studio album. Showcasing THePETEBOX’ mastery of performance, live mixing and recording, the album features unique cover versions and original songs created using only his voice, various loop pedals, guitar and effects modules.
The recording of each song is filmed live in one take by director Simon Ellis. The album is being released one song at a time exclusively on The Petebox YouTube channel. Fans will see a new song every two weeks as singles in the lead up to the official album release. With each video the audio mp3 download will be made available to purchase. At the release of the last video, the full physical album will be released as a CD/DVD package as well as the digital audio and video download options.
Introducing himself to the world of YouTube last March 2010, THePETEBOX’s first HD video of his reinterpretation of Pixies classic ‘Where Is My Mind’ went viral, amassing over 1.8 million views and counting and receiving accolades from Blink 182’s bassist Mark Hopper, MTV US and the Pixies themselves who put it on their website. Since then the first two official videos of Future Loops have amassed over 100,000 views in the first three weeks.
As for the tracks themselves, we see the variety of THePETEBOX’s influences as a musician as he takes on creating his own versions of a handful of his favourite songs using various setups to completely make them his own. His own compositions take you through soulful melodies, cleverly arranged ‘brass sections’, distinctive chorus’ and beatboxing and guitar playing. The theme of loop pedal exploration is naturally explored as the entire album is arranged and performed live using a loop pedal as the hub of the operations and ThePETEBOX clearly demonstrates he is amongst the worlds best at this method.
