Sura Susso
7.30pm - 12am
Free entry
Sura Susso is an extremely talented young musician who comes from a deeply rooted traditional family of musicians, yet is equally happy engaging ‘out there’ with the contemporary music scene. After playing both solo and in the Seckou Keita Quintet, Sura has collaborated with the likes of Maximilian Baille - artfully mixing the complementary sounds of the kora and the violin - and the duo Askew and Avis (this led to the recording of the Kora Song Radio Album).
He has worked on a project to combine the theme of football with music and dance originating from Botswana, and, in between recording songs for this new album has also taken time to contribute to a joint performance with French trumpeter Erick Truffaz for the Brecon Jazz festival. A great privilege for Sura and his popular vocalist sister, Binta Susso, was the opportunity to perform at Glastonbury Festival in 2009. This took place at the Africa Express Event where the two siblings were invited to perform with the legendary Baaba Maal.
