Summer Launch Party

Pia Camil and Trix & Robert Haussmann

13 Jul 2018

Join us for a summer party as we launch our new exhibitions by Pia Camil and Trix & Robert Haussmann, both exploring playful architecture.

The evening continues with live music by Imperial Leisure, combining influences from the ska-2-tone era with more recent punk-rock and hip hop sounds, and a DJ set from Truth & Lies Music.

Reserve your free ticket to our launch party

Pia Camil is a Mexico-city based artist working in textiles and ceramics, whose works highlight the traces that consumerism and globalisation leave on the built environment. Her exhibition, Split Wall, features interactive works, such as a 110m textile installation constructed from t-shirts sold at Mexico City’s street markets, and a usable hammock made from discarded jeans sewn together, creating social spaces within the gallery space. Trix & Robert Haussmann are one of the most significant and intriguing Swiss architects and designers of the twentieth century. Their exhibition brings together works from the last 50 years, spanning architecture, product design, installation, furniture and textiles. Blending popular culture with classical styles, their work explores illusion and ambiguity- including neon animal print chairs, mirrored installations, and fragmented pillars. The exhibition has been designed by Caruso St John Architects – architects of Nottingham Contemporary’s RIBA Award-winning building. Read more >

Join us from 6.30pm and take a look around our exhibitions. The galleries are open until 9pm, and our café bar stays open until 11pm.

*At every one of our exhibition openings we like to give away 400 free cocktails; we wish we could give a free drink to everyone, but our complimentary drinks are limited and on first come first serve basis. Make sure you arrive early and remember to collect a drink token at the front entrance if you would like to claim a free drink. If you do arrive later and do not receive a free drink, our café downstairs will be serving tasty food and beverages for you to buy. Nottingham Contemporary is a charity and we do welcome donations.

We hope you can celebrate with us!
