I Would Prefer Not To

26 Jun 2014

Refusal – of meaning, of work, of the work - strategies adopted by artists to sidestep or escape the positions that attributed to them, find resonances in contemporary critical theory and philosophy. Four fortnightly sessions explore the dimensions of a “radical passivity”, from refusal to work to intense critical interest in Herman Melville’s Bartleby. The atmosphere will be friendly and open. All are welcome and sessions are free, but booking is required.

Please email emma@nottinghamcontemporary.org to reserve a place.

Led by Andrew Goffey (Centre for Critical Theory, University of Nottingham).

Thursdays May 15 & 29; June 26, 6pm-8pm.

Please note the third sesion will take place on Wednesday 11 June.

Free, The Studio
