Simon Weaver

Lunchtime Tour

27 May 2015

Dr. Simon Weaver is a Lecturer in Media and Communications at Brunel University. He completed a PHD in the Department of Sociology with a thesis Humour, Rhetoric, and Racism: A Sociological critique of Racist Humour which later served as grounds for his first book, The Rhetoric of Racist Humour: Analyzing the role of humour in racism (Ashgate, 2011) – both of which addressed the lack of research into the issues surrounding racism and humour in society and popular culture. His most recent research is a collaborative book entitled, Examining ‘Race’, Racism and Representation: An audience reception study of the comedy of Sacha Baron Cohen in which aims to examine audience responses to the comedy of the highly controversial but significant figure in contemporary comedy and popular culture, Sacha Baron Cohen.
