Part of Alien Encounters Exhibition Opening

09 Oct 2015

Artists Pauline Boudry and Renate Lorenz will present a performative talk in reference to their newly commissioned film installation In Memoriam to Identity, in collaboration with guest artists Sharon Hayes and Isla Leaver-Yap.

Part of  the Alien Encounters Exhibition Opening.

Pauline Boudry and Renate Lorenz have been working together in Berlin since 2007. Their staged films and film installations often start with a song, a picture, a film or a script from the past. They produce performances for the camera, staging the actions of individuals and groups living — indeed thriving — in defiance of normality. Their films upset normative historical narratives as they often revisit materials from the past, excavating unrepresented or illegible moments of utopia in history.
Their work has been shown at the Kunsthalle Zürich, at the Berlinale, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, La Triennale in Paris, the Venice Biennale, the Kunsthalle Wien, the South London Gallery, the Centre d´Art Contemporain in Geneva, amongst others.
Sharon Hayes has been engaged in an art practice that uses multiple mediums - video, performance and installation - in ongoing investigation into the various intersections between history, politics and speech over the past ten yearsHer work is concerned with developing new representational strategies that examine and interrogate the present political moment. To this aim, she employs conceptual and methodological approaches borrowed from artistic and academic practices such as theatre, film, anthropology, linguistics and journalism.
Hayes' work has been shown at the New Museum for Contemporary Art and at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, at the Tate Modern in London, the Museum Moderner Kunst in Vienna, the Deutsche Guggenheim in Berlin, amongst several other spaces.
Isla Leaver-Yap works with artists to produce essays, books, exhibitions and events. She is currently working on upcoming book projects with artists Lucy McKenzie and James Richards. Recent projects include work with Hanne Darboven, Moyra Davey, Dexter Sinister, Maria Fusco, Will Holder, Charlotte Prodger, Stuart Marshall, Shahryar Nashat, Anne Charlotte Robertson, Jack Smith, Patrick Staff and Leslie Thornton.
