Music Exchange Live is a series of free and unique gigs featuring unusual bands, experimental music and one off collaborations being launched by The Music Exchange, a social enterprise run by Framework, Nottinghamshire’s leading homelessness charity.
Hosted by Café Bar Contemporary at Nottingham Contemporary on the last Thursday of every month, the gigs will feature bands from far and wide. The first to play on Thursday 30 September is Souvaris, a 5-piece ‘Erudite Instrumental Rock Outfit’. The following gig on 28 October will be with Kraut rockers Strange Attraktors and the Christmas special on the 16th December features the explosive soul party band Black Powder.

We are extremely excited to have Souvaris play, with a renowned live show and sound often compared to the kraut rock style of Can and Neu, but not afraid to add the odd poppy hook. Having not played in Nottingham since the launch of their split album With Sincabeza “Clown Jazz” (Gringo Records), we expect this show to be extremely busy
Nottingham-based 5-piece Souvaris are all about the melody, the dynamic, and getting people to dance in 7/4 time…
Souvaris are now in their 10th year of music making, and in that time have released 2 full-length albums, a pair of 12” vinyl releases, a 7” single, and numerous compilation tracks and cdr’s. Joyfully throwing together the krautrock motorik of Neu! and Can, the grooves and bad jazz of Tortoise and Battles and the odd Yo La Tengo or Stereolab-esque pop hook, the band have carved a musical niche very much their own. Having played countless shows with bands ranging from Caribou to Do Make Say Think, Dalek to old friends Explosions in the Sky, Souvaris deliver a live show that is as entertaining as it is subtle, as direct as it is layered.
This show at Café.Bar.Contemporary is an exclusive warm-up for their forthcoming tour of continental Europe, and a welcome return to the live stage. Dancing is strongly encouraged…
