Broadcast live for Nottingham Contemporary from Mains d’Oeuvres, Saint-Ouen, Paris.
In the English-speaking world, novelist, philosopher and playwright Hélène Cixous is recognised for creating the idea of 'écriture feminine' - as well as for the prolificacy and distinct style of her own writing, which, fiction or not, freely crosses from the critical to the poetic.
LA-based artist Alexandra Grant is currently developing the multi-faceted project Interior Forest, based on her ongoing exchange with Hélène Cixous. It encompasses public drawing sessions, reading groups, collaborations and installations at 18th Street Arts Center, LA and Mains d’Oeuvres, Paris.
Departing from the presence of Cixous' writing within the publication that accompanies Aquatopia - and thus its place in the research that informs the exhibition - Alexandra Grant and Hélène Cixous will create a conversation that explores the place of the sea and the sub-aquatic within the body of Cixous' writing.
