Gaffa’s debut at Nottingham Contemporary generated a mass of fan’s requests.

When Wayne Evan’s lyrics finally sliced through the crust of pop journalism, the NME gave it Single of The Week Status in their vast circulation days of the late ‘70s. “…the vocals are a wordy cross between the likes of George Melly and Deaf School, but lyrics turn out to be the band’s main strength and appeal…”

While the NME ran the first of many national live reviews, citing Gaffa as “ the ‘Nottingham Band “. It took Sounds to pronounce Gaffa “ - plain and simple - the band, full stop”. Evans and the boys then did all the gigs culminating with the John Peel Show [04/04/79]. And fans can savour these captivating recordings on the Soundcloud site In 2007 when Henrick Bech Poullson’s book “77, The Year of Punk & New Wave championed the real value of all things Gaffa.

So now, the songwriting team of Wayne, Orchestrater John Maslen and Sonic Architect Clive Smith (the Myphalator) with drummer Simon Bowhill, makes it back to Nottingham Contemporary.

This new showcase of songs, variously described as ‘jazz punk’ or ‘pop’ …very listenable, includes the much requested ‘Long Weekend’, ‘You Know I Love You’, Hotdogginit” and the orchestrated classic ‘Allotment’.
