Forgotten Histories

Roma Piotrowska

09 Dec 2014

6.30pm

Free, The Space

The archive has become increasingly visible in the practice of many contemporary artists. With an aim to bring neglected subjects and histories to the fore, the reactivation of lost archives serves to fill the gaps which exist within art historical and institutional narratives.

Roma Piotrowska, art historian and curator will demonstrate how history is constructed through archives, and how excluded narratives could influence the image of art history. Referencing the work of Goshka Macuga and Neil Cummings & Marysia Lewandowska among others, Piotrowska will situate the practice of Agnieszka Polska within the wider context of forgotten or neglected histories and those who resurrect them.

Piotrowska is an art historian, curator and critic based in Birmingham. Piotrowska holds the position of Exhibition Co-ordinator for the Iraq Pavilion, la Biennale di Venezia for 2015. Her research interests focus on archives, memory, identity, politics and economy in relation to art.
