Ten paintings by Haitian artist, Gérard Fortune will be auctioned as part of our Help for Haiti campaign with One Nottingham and Oxfam. Gérard's work featured in our recent exhibition, Kafou: Haiti, Art & Vodou which closed on 6 Jan 2013.
Hurricane Sandy hit Haiti in October 2012 whilst the country was still recovering from the impact of the earthquake in 2010. More details about the campaign can be found here: http://helpforhaiti.org.uk. All proceeds of the auction will go to Oxfam to help the people of Haiti.
The paintings are by Gérard Fortune, a self-taught artist, now in his late eighties. He took up painting during the 1970s and still works in the silence of night by candlelight. His colourful and evocative works are portraits of Vodou spirits, lwas and ceremonies.
