The Cabinet of Dr Caligari

07 Dec 2010

The influence of this classic silent horror film – a masterpiece of German expressionist cinema - is still strong today. This showing coincides with its 90th anniversary this year. The film is set to a specially composed soundtrack by Cipher, creating a rich, haunting soundscape that emphasises the film’s distorted set designs and disturbing story. Bass virtuoso Dave Sturt has composed for film and television. He has recently toured Europe with the legendary experimentalists Gong. Saxophonist and composer Theo Travis has performed for twelve separate weeks at Ronnie Scotts, and has recorded with Robert Fripp, David Sylvian and Jah Wobble. His second album was voted Best British Jazz CD that year.

I saw this film about three or four years ago on DVD... I think this might have to go in my diary as a 'must do' !
